Your health and safety - learnings from Grenfell

At GreenSquare we take your health and safety extremely seriously.

Following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower last summer, we have taken a number of steps to make sure that your health and safety remains our top priority.

These include:

  • Conducting a review of all our buildings that are more than four storeys high. This concluded that none of our buildings have the same type of cladding used at Grenfell Tower.
  • Working with specialist consultants to audit and check the work we carry out to ensure we continue to fully comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Undertaking a programme to replace any flat entrance doors that open into a shared hallway, when we can't prove that the door meets required fire safety levels. This might be because the customer has replaced the door themselves.

Our Board has been very keen to look at any early lessons that can be learnt following the two Grenfell Inquiries – the first conducted by Dame Judith Hackitt, and the second Public Inquiry which is still under way.

We have already agreed to make the following changes to our standards:

  • Raise the standard for fire doors and fire door installation, beyond that required by building regulations, in all alteration, replacement and new build work.
  • Install sprinkler systems in all new properties over three storeys high, which provide homes for vulnerable residents.
  • Review our reporting systems to ensure that they are robust and fit for purpose. We want our customers to be confident their concerns are being heard right at the top.

This work is in addition to all our regular work of carrying out fire risk assessments, gas safety checks and electrical checks.

We are also taking a tougher line in some of these areas. If we ask you to move items from a communal area, and you refuse, or if you repeatedly refuse us access to conduct our testing work, then we will pursue access through your tenancy agreement.

This is all to ensure that we maintain the highest standards in relation to your health and safety.

If you see any issues or problems, or have any concerns or worries about health and safety, please do contact us as soon as possible, no matter how trivial you might think it is.

Many thanks,

Andrew Smith
