Supporting Gas Safety Week 2019

It’s Gas Safety Week 2019 (16-22 September) and GreenSquare is supporting the campaign to help raise awareness about the importance of gas safety.

The ninth annual Gas Safety Week, coordinated by the Gas Safe Register, sees organisations from across the UK working together to raise awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

We are using the week to highlight the importance to our customers of gas safety checks and avoiding missed appointments.

Richard Poberezniuk, operations manager gas at GreenSquare, said: “It is very important that customers have their gas appliances checked regularly to make sure that they are working safely and efficiently.

“Unfortunately each month almost 15% of prearranged gas service appointments are missed because we are unable to gain access to the properties we need, often because customers aren’t at home to let our gas engineers in.

“It’s important that customers let us know straight away if the date and time of their appointment isn’t suitable for them, or if they’re not going to be home that day to give us access to their property. We can then arrange a new appointment.”

Things to remember

  • We have a legal duty to service your gas appliances every 12 months.
  • As part of our service programme, we will contact you up to two months before your service is due to expire and will write to you with an appointment date offering a morning or afternoon visit. You’ll also receive a text message reminder before the appointment.
  • Your annual gas service will be carried out by a gas engineer from GreenSquare, who will come along to your property wearing a GreenSquare uniform and with a GreenSquare name badge around their necks.
  • All our gas engineers are legally qualified and on the Gas Safe Register.

As part of the week GreenSquare will also be providing an insight into the work of their gas engineers, and sharing tips and information on gas safety matters via social media. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and stay updated at #GSW19

Jonathan Samuel, chief executive for Gas Safe Register, said: “Unsafe gas appliances can be fatal, and not being aware of these dangers can cause you and your family harm. This Gas Safety Week we have the support of GreenSquare and by working together we can keep the public informed of gas safety and help reduce the risk of dangerous gas appliances across the UK.”
