Residents living near Dora Carr Close in Oxford had the opportunity to have a look inside the new community centre being built there, as part of a community fun day at the weekend (12 September).
At the event, which was run by the Oxfordshire Play Association at the Northway recreation ground, local residents enjoyed an afternoon of fun, free activities for the whole family. GreenSquare, who is developing 47 new homes and a state-of-the-art community centre next to the recreation ground, had a stall at the event and carried out tours of the new centre for local residents.
Marie Shaw, Marketing and Community Development Worker for the new centre, said: “We were delighted that so many people came along to join in our tours of the new centre. We had more than 60 local residents of all ages, as well as the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Rae Humberstone, enjoy a sneaky peek around the new centre and have a look at how building work is progressing.”
The new community centre, which is set to be completed in early 2016, will replace the existing Northway Community Centre, currently located at Dora Carr Close, and will have facilities including: a multi-use hall with improved sports changing rooms; social club and community space; local business units; education and learning space. It will be run by Northway Community Association and will have the capacity to host social occasions such as weddings, conferences, and sports events.
Also at Dora Carr Close, in partnership with Oxford City Council, GreenSquare is building 47 new homes comprising 15 three-bedroom houses, 4 four-bedroom houses and 28 one and two-bedroom flats.
