A regeneration project to develop former garage sites and land at Dogridge in Purton into ten affordable homes has reached completion.

GreenSquare has been building eight flats at the Dogridge site, a mixture of one and two-beds, as well as two bungalows, all for affordable rent.

The last of the four flats are due to be completed later this month and will be handed over to the new residents in early December.

The two-bedroom bungalows were completed a year ago and reflecting on her first year in her new home is resident Sandra Ball aged 72. “I can’t believe I’ve been here exactly a year already, it’s gone really quick, she said. “I was so elated when I knew I’d be moving here and I still am now, I love this place.”

Sandra, a retired care worker previously lived for over ten years just down the road at one of GreenSquare’s housing schemes for people aged 55 and over.

“I was going to be moving last year to a different housing scheme in Royal Wootton Bassett, but I didn’t want to live in an apartment again, also I wanted to stay in Purton and be close to my family," explains Sandra who has four grown up children and eight grandchildren. “I’d heard about this development and saw the two bungalows, but I never thought I’d get the chance to live in something this nice,” she said.

“Where I am is lovely and having a garden has been great. I’ve got a swing and my three younger grandchildren love it when they visit.”

In the year that Sandra has lived at Dogridge she has watched the rest of the new homes being built. “They’ve worked so hard the builders, they’re friendly and I think the homes look really nice,” she said. “They’re modern and that’s what I like about my bungalow. Even my 19-year-old granddaughter says she’d like to live in one!”

Peter Crouch, New Business and Development Manager at GreenSquare, said: “We are really pleased to be completing our regeneration of Dogridge and to be able to provide more good quality housing, which is increasingly in short supply”.

“The flats and bungalows look great and have transformed the area. We would like to thank the existing residents for their patience and understanding while the building works have taken place. Our site team have really appreciated the support of many in the community.”

The properties were built by GreenSquare’s in-house development arm GreenSquare Homes.

As the Dogridge development finishes another regeneration project in Wiltshire is progressing with GreenSquare staring on site in December at Bendy Bow in the village of Oaksey.

The project will involve demolishing 12 older properties to make way for 24 new homes, available for a mixture of rent and shared ownership.

The development is expected to be completed in early 2021.
