Would you like to learn to cook healthy meals on a budget AND gain a recognised qualification?
GreenSquare’s Housing Support team is running two FREE five-week basic cookery courses this month (November), which are taking place weekly from: Wednesday 11 November (12noon-3pm) at the Forest of Dean Community Church, Station Road, Cinderford and Thursday 12 November (10am-1pm) at The Redwell Centre, Red Well Road, Matson, Gloucester.
James Aldridge, Community Involvement Officer at GreenSquare, said: “With food prices continuing to rise, people are increasingly in need of the skills to be able to produce good, nutritious and tasty food on a budget. This course will teach you everything you need to know – from shopping on a budget to food preparation and how to follow simple recipes using healthy ingredients.
“You don’t need to bring anything – all cooking utensils and ingredients are provided – and the course is completely free. Not only is it a good chance to learn new skills and gain some confidence in the kitchen, but it is also an opportunity to meet new people and have fun doing so.”
Everyone who takes part will receive a certificate for completing the course and a free bag of essential food items.
People will also have the additional option to complete a level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering – this is an online course, which people can complete in their own time. GreenSquare has formed a partnership with local libraries in the area, who can help people to access the internet if they need somewhere to complete the course online.
James continued: "If people choose to complete the Level 2 Award, and find themselves interested in pursuing a career in catering, we have also formed a partnership with a local project, who can help people to find appropriate volunteer opportunities."
