Help others make a house a home

Waste Not Want Not help families and individuals on low incomes furnish their homes by offering donated usable furniture and white goods at affordable prices.

Since the charity began in 2002 they have made a difference to 60,000 people across North Wiltshire and many of these people have included GreenSquare customers.

“It can be a shock for people moving into a new property sometimes, opening the door and finding nothing there”, explains Phil Reade (pictured) from Waste Not Want Not. “There’s a gap where a fridge or cooker would be and a bedroom that’s just an empty room. For someone who needs all the essentials it can be a huge mountain to climb.”

Located on Hungerdown Lane in Chippenham, their large showroom displays a wide range of quality used furniture and household goods for sale, including beds, sofas, electric cookers, fridges, freezers, bookcases, tables and chairs, and more.

Winner of Charity of the Year in this year’s South West Business Awards, Waste Not Want Not are looking for people to become a Friend and help support their work.

Phil continues: “As well providing those with the least in life with access to affordable goods for their home, we also make a difference to the volunteers who make up our workforce. Coming from a variety of backgrounds and with different abilities, our volunteers get the opportunity to build confidence, key life skills and often also move on to paid employment.

“As a charity we need to raise enough money each year towards our running costs though and that can be a challenge.”

Julie Bielby, community involvement manager at GreenSquare, said: “We’ve been proud to support Waste Not Want Not for a number of years. They have helped many of our customers who’ve moved into properties with very little and provide a really valuable service to the community.”
