GreenSquare’s new chief executive lends a hand at clean up day

GreenSquare’s new chief executive, Howard Toplis, joined other members of staff from the housing group’s Oxford office to lend a hand at an organised clean up day in Abingdon.

Howard, who came on board as chief executive of GreenSquare Group at the start of August, joined staff and local residents at Tower Close to help spruce up the area.

Lew Fryer, Community Involvement Officer at GreenSquare, organised the event. He explained: “We want to ensure that all of the residents can be proud of the areas they live in and our community clean up days continue to prove extremely popular with residents of all ages.

“Today’s event went really well and it was great to see Howard and the other staff volunteers helping out - there is always so much to do, so I would like to say a big thank you to all those who attended.

“At the clean up days, we work with local firms to ensure we recover and recycle as much as possible and carry out small repairs in residents’ homes. Residents have the chance to talk to members of staff about any issues they have - and in this case they also had the chance to meet and get to know Howard a bit better!

“And younger residents get involved as well. We provide them with litter pickers, gloves and high visibility jackets and there is always a bit of friendly rivalry as the children compete to collect as much rubbish as possible – of course, they all receive goody bags at the end!”
