Building work has begun at a new housing development by GreenSquare which will bring 34 affordable homes to Chippenham.
The development is at Middlefields, just off Hungerdown Lane in the town, and the properties will be available for a mixture of rent and shared ownership.
Shared ownership enables people to part-buy and part-rent their own home, an ideal option for people who cannot afford to buy a property outright on the open market. It is an alternative to renting or full ownership but gives people the same rights and responsibilities as any other homeowner.
The homes will be close to the new Lidl supermarket, which opened on Hungerdown Lane in February this year.
Jo Curson (pictured) head of development at GreenSquare, said: “We are pleased to start construction on the new development at Middlefields, bringing a great range of high quality, and much-needed, affordable homes to the town.
“The properties will be a mixture of two and three-bedroom homes, and one and two-bedroom flats, catering for a range of lifestyles. They are in a great location too and will make a real difference to the area.”
The land was sold by Wiltshire Council for redevelopment, part of which includes 34 new affordable homes as part of the council’s overall drive to provide more affordable homes in Wiltshire.
Richard Clewer (pictured) Wiltshire Council cabinet member for housing said: “Chippenham is an attractive place to live and work. We need more affordable homes to keep a sense of community and ensure people can afford to live in this thriving corner of Wiltshire. We are committed to providing affordable homes for everyone in the county and schemes like this will play a key role in helping achieve this.”
The homes are being built by GreenSquare Homes, the in-house development arm of GreenSquare Group. The development is expected to be complete by early 2021.
