GreenSquare awarded silver at SHIFT awards

GreenSquare has been recognised by a prestigious environmental awards scheme for its high quality homes and efforts to reduce its environmental impact.

GreenSquare was awarded 'Silver' in the highly challenging Sustainability Homes Index for Tomorrow (SHIFT) benchmarking scheme. Endorsed by the Government, SHIFT analyses the environmental performance of housing associations, including their homes, offices and operations. The Index is measured on various aspects such as energy efficiency, water use, waste and adaptation to climate change.

Every two years members of the Index receive an independent, in-depth assessment, comparing them with other housing providers and suggesting ways to improve. The awards were announced on Wednesday 26 November at a conference for social landlords in Olympia, London and were attended by over 500 people in the sector.

Tom Pritchard, GreenSquare’s Commercial Director, leads on the company’s green strategy and received the award on behalf of GreenSquare.  He said: “We’re delighted with this excellent news. Being awarded Silver means we have been recognised as one of the most environmentally-friendly housing associations in the country, which is fantastic.

“Environmental sustainability is vitally important and is something we take very seriously. With bills continuing to rise, we are invested in improving the energy efficiency of our homes and reduce our environmental impact to benefit residents and future generations.”

Andrew Eagles, Managing Director of Sustainable Homes, which administers the scheme, said: “These awards are all about recognising progress and achievement in improving the quality of residents’ homes. GreenSquare should be proud of the strides they are taking to improve – especially at the moment when cash from the Government is so limited. SHIFT members are at the forefront of sustainability. They have committed to independent assessment and are working to reduce their impacts”
