Enter our pumpkin carving competition - it's spooktacular fun!

It's October, which can only mean one thing – yes, Halloween is almost upon us!

It's time to watch scary films, wear spooky costumes, go trick or treating, and of course, eat lots of sweets. It's also that time of the year when families get together to carve pumpkins, and we'd like to see your finest spooky creations.

On our Facebook pages, we're running the Great GreenSquare Carve Off – all you have to do is upload a fiendish photo of your petrifying pumpkin to the Facebook page for your area, for a chance to win a £25 voucher.

Susan Matthews, GreenSquare's community involvement officer, said: "The whole point of pumpkin carving is to get together and have a bit of fun! Your designs don't have to be overly complicated, just start by cutting out a simple shape, spooky or otherwise.

"Make sure you upload your picture by 1 November to be in with a chance of winning. We can't wait to see your spinetingling creations!"

Here's a few of our top tips and pumpkin carving tricks:

  • Put down some newspaper or an old cloth on your table before you start... pumpkin carving can be a messy business.
  • Don’t be over-ambitious, a simple, bold shape is easiest to do and still looks impressive.
  • Straight lines are simpler to carve, so try replacing circles with triangles.
  • If your pumpkin’s a little unsteady, saw off the bottom as well as the top.
  • Keep your pumpkin in the fridge to preserve it for longer.

Our Facebook pages can be found at:  facebook.com/GreenSquareGlosfacebook.com/GreenSquareWiltsfacebook.com/GreenSquareOxon. There will be one overall winner chosen from all the entries across the three pages.
