We are proposing to complete the GreenSquareAccord merger process by transferring Westlea Housing Association (your landlord company) into Accord Housing Association Limited.
Yes, we wrote to you earlier this year to let you know that GreenSquare Group and GreenSquare Community Housing had merged with Accord Housing Association to create GreenSquareAccord. This was the first stage of our planned merger process. Since 6 April 2021 you will have noticed we are now using this new name and logo on our letters, websites, ID badges and uniforms – and email addresses have changed.
We are getting in touch again because we are now proposing to complete the GreenSquareAccord merger process by transferring Westlea Housing Association (your landlord company) into Accord Housing Association Limited. This would happen in the same way as the earlier merger by what is called a ‘transfer of engagements’. Following this, we plan to change the name of the combined company to be ‘GreenSquareAccord’ so that its legal name is the same as its trading name.
Although your landlord company has been using the name ‘GreenSquare’ for many years, its legal name has remained Westlea Housing Association Limited – and it is currently a separate company (or subsidiary) in the GreenSquareAccord group. All your services have been provided by GreenSquare, and now GreenSquareAccord, which is why you might not have realised Westlea Housing still existed.
Doing this will mean our housing associations are together as one company and will have a simpler and less confusing legal structure. It will mean we can be more efficient and save money to spend on things that matter to you. This will be like putting the last piece of a jigsaw in place and will help us to improve services to you; invest more in local communities; extend our care and support services; and build more affordable homes.
Importantly, these changes would not affect your tenancy or lease or the services you receive. Your legal rights and the terms and conditions of your tenancy or lease will not change. The level of your rent or service charge will not change as a result of the transfer. If you already have the right to buy, you would not lose that right. The only difference is that your landlord will have changed.
Because your services are already provided by GreenSquareAccord, you will continue to have the local housing officers, and other staff you know and recognise, supporting you and working locally in your area. There are no immediate plans to make changes to any of our other contractors – as contracts come up for renewal we’ll review what’s best for all customers.
Yes, absolutely – and that’s why we are sending this to you. It is a regulatory requirement to consult with customers about any change in landlord. Your feedback will be shared with board members who will take it into account before deciding whether to go ahead.
Shareholding members of Westlea, which include customers, will also need to vote to support the transfer before it can happen. We are committed to providing ways for you to get involved and help us improve our services and that won’t change if the transfer goes ahead. We will work with our current customer groups to make sure that your voice will continue to be heard.
One short-term disadvantage is the amount of time and resources required to arrange the transfer, but this will result in longer-term benefits. We have concluded that the proposal makes good business sense.
Only staff time and external advisors’ costs in the short term. These costs will be absorbed by the new organisation and will not be passed on to you. Any savings made in the longer term will mean we are able to improve, and add to, the services customers benefit from.

The merger does not change our relationship with you or the services you receive. And you can expect to be dealing with the same people you did when GreenSquare and Accord were separate. There is nothing you need to do. This website will remain in place for the moment and is for GreenSquareAccord customers in the South and South West and those who were previously GreenSquare customers.
You will notice we begin to use a new logo on letters, ID badges and uniforms – and email addresses have changed. But you can expect to still see the separate GreenSquare and Accord names and logos in some places (including this website) as we start to bring services together over the months ahead.
In time, we will use the extra resources resulting from the merger to expand and improve local delivery of services, across our larger operating area. So that, together, bigger really will mean better.
