GreenSquare scrutiny panel shortlisted in UKHA
![]() |
GreenSquare has been shortlisted from more than 250 entries to the 2010 UK Housing Awards. These awards are now in their 14th year and recognise outstanding work in housing which improves the lives of people in their communities.
GreenSquare's resident scrutiny panel is now one of six left in the running for the 'Involving and empowering communities' category.
The event is organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), and attracted a phenomenal response with submissions from the length and breadth of the UK.
The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel on 10 November hosted by BBC Radio Scotland’s Fred MacAulay. The awards are sponsored by Hays, PH Jones, United House, EMA, Sanctuary Group, Capita Resourcing, Devonshires Solicitors and supported by The Scottish Government, Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland’s Department for Social Development. Last year nearly 800 people attended.
Having completed a one-year pilot, the resident scrutiny panel is now a formal part of the GreenSquare’s governance structure that gives residents the right to scrutinise, question and influence the decisions that are made about their homes and services.
“Setting up the resident scrutiny panel was a huge leap of faith, but it has been truly fantastic,” says Andrew Smith, from GreenSquare's executive team. “We now have this great group of people who have really got to grips with the business and are not afraid to positively challenge seasoned housing professionals and make us see what we do in a completely different way. The whole experience has been thoroughly energising and we would be delighted to share that experience with other social housing providers, including our terms of reference and how we trained and supported new RSP members.”
CIH Chief Executive, Sarah Webb, said: “It is fantastic that we have had so many excellent entries this year, and this is evident from the high standard of the shortlisted finalists. I want to congratulate all the organisations who have reached the finals, their work is a true inspiration to all of us.”
