Strong first year with major future plans

GreenSquare has achieved much in its first year of operation – particularly significant in light of the current economic climate. The group developed 389 new homes in 2008/2009, with another 815 on site or contracted to start.

And GreenSquare has recently received a major investment of £28m from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to build 519 homes, mainly for affordable rent or purchase, over the next three years.

GreenSquare Development Director Vic O’Brien said: ‘Our programme will make a real difference to those in housing need at a time when house repossessions are rising because of the downturn in the economy.’

The programme – covering sites in Swindon, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire – is anticipated to create an estimated 500 local jobs as well as training opportunities for unemployed people. A number of the sites will involve regenerating brownfield industrial sites and, in so doing, improve the environment of the surrounding community, says Vic.

Colin Molton, regional director of the Homes and Communities Agency in the south west said: ‘The HCA is committed to helping provide affordable homes for purchase or rent in locations where people want to live, work and relax.’
